1)   How useful were the pre-course readings?


1: The pre-course readings were useful and made it possible to get the most out of the course. I would agree that they are absolutely necessary. 2: Very useful. 3: Useful. 4: Very. 5: Informative, useful and necessary. 6: Very useful and will be better understood now that I have completed the class. 7: Excellent. 8: Very useful and appropriate to course. 9: Very helpful.

 

2)   Were the course syllabus and other materials distributed in class useful (or will they be so in the future, after you return home)?


1: The syllabus and the other material we received was useful in class, and I will be using it at home also for review and for reference. 2: Very useful. 3: Very useful. 4-5: Yes. 6: Very appropriate and relevant. I will refer to them when I return. 7: Yes. 8: Very useful materials. I’m sure I will refer to them on a regular basis. 9: Yes.

 

3)   Was the intellectual level of the course content appropriate?


1-9: Yes.

 

4)   If your course had field trips, were they effective?


1: It was very appropriate, because we were able to see and understand better what we had discussed. 2-3: Yes. 4: Yes. 5: It was a very enlightening and pertinent period. 6: Absolutely yes! 7-9: Yes.

 

5)   What did you like best about the course?


1: Best – first I was glad to learn a great deal and also the rapport in the classroom made it fun. 2: Excellent instructor; course well-organized, interesting, and all materials and exercises challenging and apt. 3: Transcription and collation practice. 4: I found the practice exercises very helpful. 5: Content was helpful for my work. 6: All the new information – fascinating and useful. 7: The thoroughness and depth in which the instructor covered the material. I have learned a great deal and been well prepared to apply what I learned in my library. 8: The comprehensive treatment of the subject. 9: Course work.

 

6)   How could the course have been improved?


1: I don’t know that it could be any better. It was top notch. 3: I wish it were possible to have a two-week or two-part course, though I see how it isn’t feasible. Perhaps a course for returnees? 4: I didn’t think the videos were too helpful – I thought the time could have been better spent on lecture. 5: There is a wealth of material, some of which might have been cut or trimmed. 6: More time could be spent on certain confusing aspects, or further reading or study recommended. 7: No suggestions; the course is excellent. 8: The course was well structured. 9: I was happy.

 

7)   We are always concerned about the physical well-being both of the RBS teaching collections and of materials owned by UVa’s Special Collections. If relevant, what suggestions do you have for the improved classroom handling of such materials used in your course this week?


1: I thought that the [hand] wipes that one could use were a good idea. 6: No suggestions.

 

8)   If you attended the Sunday and/or Monday night lectures, were they worth attending?


1: Both lectures were interesting and informative and added a great deal to the RBS experience. 2: I enjoyed the lectures. 4: Did not attend. 6: N/A. 7: Yes.


9) If you attended Museum Night, was the time profitably spent?


1: This was most profitable. It was the first time I was able to see stereotype plates and many other printing items. 2: Museum was very interesting. Glad I attended. 3: Yes. 4: I thought it was interesting, though only slightly relevant to my work. 5: Museum Night was a great evening and the discussions most enjoyable. 6: N/A. 7: Yes, especially Museum Night.

 

10) Did you get your money’s worth? Any final thoughts?


1: I would like to attend future courses in area that are not part of my daily job. 2: Definitely got my money’s worth. I will encourage others at my institution to take the course if possible. 3: Yes. 4: It wasn’t my money, but I thought it was worthwhile. 5: Yes. Come well prepared in the readings and well prepared to work hard. 6: Absolutely worth it! A great experience. 7: Yes. I most highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested. 8: A worthwhile investment, but very rigorous. 9: DJL is an excellent teacher.
