Terry Belanger

74: Seminar in Book Illustration Processes [I-30]

26-30 July 2004

1)   How useful were the pre-course readings?

1: Limited (nature of course), but vital. 2: No formal list for the class, but readings in second half of Gascoigne. 3: Very useful, essential (Gascoigne).

2)   Were the course syllabus and other materials distributed in class useful (or will they be so in the future, after you return home)?

1-3: Yes.

3)   What aspects of the course content were of the greatest interest or relevance for your purposes? Was the intellectual level of the course appropriate?

1: Enormously rich resources of RBS (which I expected) made all my questions answerable in great detail! 2: I enjoyed all aspects of the course content. Having such a range of materials to study from, and so many examples of each, is always very useful and helpful. Having reference works close at hand, also. 3: The chance to raise my print technique identification skills up a level.

5)   What did you like best about the course?

1: See [response to question] three. 2: The size of the class, the openness of discussions, plenty of time to investigate particular processes of interest. 3: The small size, which made it possible to pass around the extraordinarily interesting and instructive material easily and in quantity.

6)   How could the course have been improved?

1: Perhaps a better pre-course reading list. 2: Maybe an advance reading list.

7)   We are always concerned about the physical well-being both of the RBS teaching collections and of materials owned by UVa’s Special Collections. If relevant, what suggestions do you have for the improved classroom handling of such materials used in your course this week?

1: None. 2: Well cared for.

8)   If you attended the Sunday and/or Monday night lectures, were they worth attending?

1-2: Yes.

9) If you attended Museum Night, was the time profitably spent?

1,3: Yes.

10) Did you get your money’s worth? Any final thoughts?

1: Yes!! 2: Definitely worth my institution’s money. 3: Definitely.
