1) How useful were the pre-course readings?

1: Very useful, absolutely necessary. 3: The pre-course readings were very helpful and a good preparation.

2) Were the course syllabus and other materials distributed in class useful (or will they be so in the future, after you return home)?

1: Both, to a large extent. 2: Yes -- the materials provided will be a useful and practical memory aid to the concepts and practices discussed during class. 3: Yes, on both counts: they both well illustrated what we were covering and will provide useful further reading and reference.

3) Was the intellectual level of the course content appropriate?

1: The course was on a high, fully appropriate level. 2: Yes. And waiting three years between DesBib and advanced did me good I think -- too soon a return would not have allowed that learned in the first course to be adequately "digested" and assimilated. 3: Yes.

4) If your course had field trips, were they effective?

1: It was, e.g. performance on analyzing books (Hinman collator and other tools). 2: Yes -- we took a trip to Special Collections to see the Hinman and Lindstrand, as well as to hear David Vander Meulen speak -- very interesting, as well as instructional.

5) What did you like best about the course?

1: A lot of information, provided in a very close, intensive way. Extraordinary good art of teaching, resulting not least from an extremely profound scholarship. Very good "curriculum." 2: The books; would have liked to have gone through one more set. 3: RN is an outstanding master of the subject, and his moderately informal approach, combined with the small size of the class and the participation of my fellow students made for a good learning experience.

6) How could the course have been improved?

1: I have no idea, it was so much over my expectations. 3: More time -- it can't be longer than one week, but it should be.

7) If you attended Museum Night, was the time profitably spent?

3: Very profitably spent -- especially with the new microscope to examine engraved plates.

8) Did you get your money's worth? Any final thoughts?

1: It was most certainly worth it to travel the long way from overseas for learning so much in five days! Not least I have learned how much I still have to learn; I know much better how much I still do not know. It would be very helpful to have professional exchange with colleagues from my institution who should visit RBS in future. Thanks for the magnificent English of the teacher, also being an actor! It not only facilitated the reception for me as a rather untrained foreigner a whole lot, but was really enjoyable. 2: Yes, small class size definitely a plus. 3: Absolutely, I got my money's worth. More alumni of the introductory course should take this one.
