We remember RBS emeritus faculty member Donald W. Krummel, who passed away on 25 June 2026, at the age of 96. From 1990 through 2008, Don taught various courses at RBS, including The History of American Music Printing & Publishing, How to Research a Rare Book, and Music as Bibliographical Artifact. He also served as Professor Emeritus of Library Science and Music at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and was a longtime member of the Caxton Club.
Don’s many books on music printing and the history of bibliography include 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘈𝘪𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘴 (1984), 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘺 (1992), and the co-edited handbook 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 (1990).
Don’s generosity as a teacher left a lasting mark on generations of students and colleagues. We are grateful for the time he spent with the RBS community.
