Rare Book School promotes access to our courses through a variety of fellowships and scholarships, generously funded by our supporters and offered for scholarly merit, service to the bibliographical record, and support of financial needs. Each year, roughly 25% of our more than 500 students redeem an RBS-awarded scholarship or fellowship when attending a course.
Applications are now open for the following:
- All RBS-awarded scholarships for both first-time and returning RBS students. See the Scholarships page on our website for descriptions of the various scholarships available, which can be used for RBS courses in 2027. For questions about scholarships, please email rbs_scholarships@virginia.edu. Scholarship applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
- The M. C. Lang Fellowship in Book History, Bibliography, and Humanities Teaching with Historical Sources. Designed for faculty, librarians, and curators at U.S. liberal arts colleges and small universities, the two-year Lang Fellowship transforms how instructors teach, equipping them with bibliographically informed methods that bring original historical documents into the classroom. For questions about the Lang Fellowship, please email rbs_lang@virginia.edu. Lang Fellowship applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, 6 December 2026.
