Join principal investigator and SoFCB Senior Fellow Margaret Galvan and interviewer Alison Fraser for a conversation about Galvan’s book In Visible Archives: Queer and Feminist Visual Culture in the 1980s (University of Minnesota Press, 2023). Following this conversation, the audience will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session moderated by Holly Borham. This event is part of a series celebrating new books in critical bibliography and is sponsored by Rare Book School’s Andrew W. Mellon Society of Fellows in Critical Bibliography (SoFCB).

Margaret Galvan is Assistant Professor of Visual Rhetoric in the Department of English at the University of Florida. Her archivally informed research examines how visual culture operates within social movements and includes a first book, In Visible Archives: Queer and Feminist Visual Culture in the 1980s, out now with University of Minnesota Press. In 2021–22, she was in residence at the Stanford Humanities Center as the Distinguished Junior External Fellow researching a second book about how communities of LGBTQ cartoonists innovated comics through grassroots formats. Her publications on comics in social movements can be found in journals like American Literature, Archive Journal, Australian Feminist Studies, iNKS, Journal of Lesbian Studies, and WSQ. Alison Fraser is Associate Curator of the Poetry Collection and Coordinator of the Rare & Special Books Collection at the University at Buffalo. Her research on the materiality of twentieth-century poetics and literary archives has appeared in Information & Culture; jml: Journal of Modern Literature; rbm: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage; and WSQ. Her archival recovery of female and queer poets includes the edited collections The Collages of Helen Adam (editor; Further Other Book Works/Cuneiform Press, 2017) and Nice: Collected Poems by David Melnick (co-editor; Nightboat, 2023).

Holly Borham is Associate Curator of Prints, Drawings, and European Art at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas, Austin.
