Hotel

Rare Book School has chosen the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing (201 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia, PA 19106; 215-521-6500) as the conference hotel, and we have negotiated an exclusive group rate of $189 per night for conference attendees. This rate will be available until 11 September 2017, or until the block is full. Please note that a credit card is required to hold your room, but you will not be charged anything until you check out. The deadline to cancel your reservation without penalty is 3:00 p.m. on the day before arrival.

The hotel is located on the Delaware River, just off I-95, and is a 10-minute walk from the Chemical Heritage Foundation. Rooms with one king bed or two double beds are currently available. All guests will have access to free WiFi, and RBS has negotiated 20% off overnight self-parking, making it $26 per day. Valet parking is $43 per day. All guest rooms are nonsmoking and have a mini-refrigerator; cribs are available upon request.

Please be aware that October is a peak travel season for Philadelphia, and room rates quickly approach $250–300 per night if not booked well in advance. Ground Transportation in Philadelphia

Traveling from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing

Taxis
As of October 2016, taxis charge a flat rate of $28.50 for traveling between the hotel and PHL; it is an 8-mile drive.

Lady Liberty Shuttle
The Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing recommends Lady Liberty Shuttle, a popular door-to-door shuttle service to and from the airport. When traveling from the hotel to the airport, please call 215-724-8888 to make a reservation; it is recommended that you call at least 2.5 hours in advance. When traveling from the airport to the hotel, a reservation is not needed; the Lady Liberty shuttles depart the airport every 10 to 15 minutes. Service is available from 5:30 a.m. until midnight and costs approximately $12 each way.

To catch the shuttle at PHL, proceed to the Ground Transportation Counter located in baggage claim and register with the counter attendant. Your ticket number will be called when the van arrives. Dial 27 from the ground transportation counter phones in baggage claim and inform dispatcher of your destination and the number in your party (please call after you have claimed your luggage). The Lady Liberty pick-up point is outside of baggage claim at Zone 7. Lady Liberty Shuttle is independently owned and operated, and it is handicap accessible.

Parking at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing

A parking garage is attached to the hotel. Self-parking is normally $32/day, but RBS has negotiated a special rate of approximately $26/day plus tax for our conference attendees. Valet parking is $43/day.

CHF is located near Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia’s Old City, within easy reach of I-95 and I-76, Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station, and PHL. It is also a 10-minute walk from the conference hotel.

Parking at CHF

Parking at CHF is very limited and will be reserved for people with disabilities or conference organizers. If you are disabled and will need parking at CHF, please email rbs-mellon@virginia.edu as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements for you.
