German Bookbinders in London: From Linde to Lewis

Owing to Zoom’s restrictions, this event is limited to the first 300 people who register.
A number of German nationals or craftsmen of German origin worked in the London book trade in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries—for example, as bookbinders, publishers, or booksellers—and were often very successful. This talk will look at the most important German binders in London during this period and their influence on the binding trade at the time. It will be richly illustrated with examples of their bindings, which survive in many libraries around the world, recognised and unrecognised.
Everyone is welcome to attend. To ensure the security of the event, advance registration is required; to register, click here. Registration closes at 8 a.m. ET the day of the event.
Your registration will be automatically accepted. You will receive an email reminder the day before the event. The day of the event, we will send you the Zoom URL and password. Please direct any questions to RBS Programs at rbs-events@virginia.edu.
