RBS Announces Summer 2025 Course Schedule


Rare Book School is pleased to share its summer 2025 course schedule! The list of more than 40 in-person and online courses can be found at rarebookschool.org/schedule.

This summer’s course schedule includes classes at two new partner institutions: the University of Michigan and Oxford University’s Bodleian Library (also RBS’s first international courses).

The courses running for the first time include:

Returning course Paper as Bibliographical Evidence (G-75), taught by Cathleen A. Baker, will run at the University of Michigan, a new RBS venue.

Rare Book School’s summer 2025 in-person courses in Charlottesville will be offered in the University of Virginia’s recently renovated Edgar Shannon Library. The second-floor suite boasts state-of-the-art classrooms, ample exhibition and event spaces, and spacious storage areas for the collections and printing equipment.

Other in-person courses will run at:

  • the Free Library of Philadelphia
  • the Newberry Library (Chicago)
  • the Oak Spring Garden Foundation (Upperville, VA)
  • Oxford University (Oxford, UK)
  • Princeton University (Princeton, NJ)
  • the University of Chicago
  • the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)
  • the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill)
  • the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia)
  • Yale University (New Haven, CT)

The online classes meet synchronously over five days and are offered in 22-hour and 12-hour formats.

Course applications will open in January, and the first-round deadline will be 17 February.
